The glider flying start includes 2x trial lesson flights, for a combined flight time of up to 40 minutes. This allows much more time at the controls, and is a great way of starting your journey to become a glider pilot! Each flight will be an aerotow to 2500ft, with a qualified instructor in one of our two-seat training gliders. Each flight will usually last around 20 minutes and will be taken consecutively.

You will have an excellent view of the Hampshire countryside, and be able to see local towns such as Alton and Basingstoke. On a good day you can see the South Coast, Isle of Wight, and even the taller skyscrapers in London.

Voucher includes a 1-month temporary membership to Lasham, during which time you can return and fly at members' rates, from as little as £17 per flight.

The experience

After completing your paperwork with our office team, your instructor will guide you onto the airfield and to the glider you will be flying. They will run through the safety procedures and answer any questions you may have. Your instructor will familiarise you with the controls and instruments that are in the glider.

Once you are both in and ready to go, you will be launched behind one of our 'tug' aircraft up to 2500ft where the tow rope will be released. At this point, if you wish, your instructor will invite you to take the controls, and guide you through flying the glider. Your instructor has a duplicate set of controls so can ensure your safety at all times.

Included with your Flying Start

Our Flying Start includes the following:

  • 2 flights, each launched behind a tow-plane to 2500ft.
  • 1 month membership, starting from the day of your trial lesson.
  • Waiver of membership joining fee (usually £80.00), provided you join within your trial membership period.
  • Trial Lesson Certificate.

Before booking, please read the age and size restrictions.

We recommend only booking the 10am or 11am slot if you are local. Please indicate where you are travelling from when booking.

We assess the suitability of the weather on the day and make a decision at 09:15am as to whether it’s safe to proceed with the flying operation. If weather conditions are unsuitable, flights will not take place. In such cases, there may be a delay before we can reschedule your flying start. This is an important consideration for those planning to travel to the UK for a limited time.

There is a café in the clubhouse which serves food all day. We also have a bar that opens in the afternoon.
